Have Friends Over to Watch the Oscars

February gets a bad rap for being in the middle of winter, but it contains so many great opportunities to throw parties! As soon as the casual energy of a Super Bowl party has blown through your house, you have the chance to plan a fun and formal Oscars watching party.

The Oscars will be held on February 26, 2017, so get out that bottle of gold glitter and those black high heels—it’s time to throw an Oscars party!

 Decorations for an Oscars Party

Set a glamorous stage for your Oscars party with a color scheme of black, white, and gold. If your crowd loves to dress up, invite them to wear formal attire in those colors for an elegant evening. Liberally sprinkle in a star motif and you’re all set!  Groupings of black, white, and gold balloons (especially star shaped ones) would look lovely, and a scattering of gold star confetti on the food table will really make it shine!

Don’t feel like spending the night doing dishes? Consider our classy and thematic tableware options to make your life easier and give you more time to host!

Couldn’t get any B list celebrities to RSVP? Surprise your guests with life-size cardboard cutouts of movie stars! Who wouldn’t want their picture taken with Marilyn?

Oscars Party Food and Drink

An array of finger foods will make it easy for guests to eat while they mingle and grab a quick bite during commercial breaks. Choose sumptuous options such as bruschetta, skewered shrimp, and mini quiches. A great list of recipes, courtesy of allyou.com.

These adorable mini tuxedo cheeses would be easy to make with cut up pieces of nori!

Serve fancy sparkling drinks from champagne glasses. Tip: a single fresh berry makes a super easy garnish!

For dessert, serve star-shaped cookies with gold sprinkles or even gold icing. Recipe courtesy of SimplySated.com.

Activities for Your Oscars Party (Besides Watching the Oscars)

Print out ballots of Oscars nominees and have guests mark their guesses of who will win before the ceremony begins. You can find a downloadable Oscars ballot for 2017 here.

Once the ballots are completed, even guests who previously didn’t care about Oscars results may find themselves invested in the ceremony—especially if you provide a prize for the winner. A gift certificate to a local movie theater, a nice box of chocolates, or even an Oscars statuette would make great prizes! Oscar trophies are available at Party Blvd or you can make your own.

Oscar Inspired Photo Booth

Since everyone’s dressed to the nines, your Oscars party is the perfect occasion for a photo booth! For an easy backdrop, you can hang up gold lamé fabric or use one of our scene setters.

Have plenty of fun props available, such as a top hat, big red lips, moustaches, a bag of popcorn, and an Oscars statuette.

Have a fabulous time at your Oscars party with your favorite A-list friends! Some shiny decorations, delicious finger foods, a fun photo booth, and a little winner-predicting competition will make for a golden evening.  You may find yourself shortlisted for Best Hostess!
